Sunken cheeks

opadnięte policzkiFace oval loss is one of the signs of aging, most noticeable after the age of 40. Face features change mainly due to the loss of skin firmness. Decrease in the synthesis of collagen fibers, disappearance of fat tissue and loss of muscle fiber elasticity lead to the gradual flattening of the upper part of the face, while expanding the bottom of the face. Facial bone remodelling progressing with age is of great significance. Ultimately, sunken cheeks are visible on the face, as well as the formation of the so-called ‘hamsters‘, i.e. fatty bags located in the lower parts of the cheeks, in the vicinity of the chin. Sunken cheeks and ‘hamsters’ are not the only effects of face oval loss. Drooping soft tissues foster the formation of a valley of tears, nasolabial and marionette folds.
