Calcium hydroxyapatite
Crystalys and Radiesse are preparations containing calcium hydroxyapatite. This compound has been used in medicine for many years – it increases the strength of bone tissue. Hydroxyapatite has also been used in aesthetic medicine – this unique filler is successfully used in facial modeling treatments and increasing the density and firmness of flaccid, thin skin. Crystalys and Radiesse preparations are distinguished by their versatile application and the possibility of obtaining an extremely natural effect that lasts up to two years.
Calcium hydroxyapatite – the perfect filler
Calcium hydroxyapatite is a filler that is often used in aesthetic medicine, which is due to the fact that it meets all the requirements of an ideal preparation. First of all, this compound is perfectly biocompatible with tissues, as it is physiologically present in the body. It does not cause irritation or allergic reactions, it is non-toxic, and its use does not generate any complications. Another great advantage of calcium hydroxyapatite is its extremely effective action – this compound binds to the tissues in the place where the preparation is used and stimulates fibroblasts to synthesize collagen fibers. The preparation works only at the injection site and does not spread, which allows for a very precise rejuvenating effect. Stimulating collagen synthesis translates into comprehensive skin renewal, and the creation of a specific, spatial “scaffold” ensures spectacular rejuvenation. The preparation introduced subcutaneously is biodegradable – on average after three months it is phagocytosed by macrophages. It does not mean, however, that the duration of action of the preparation is limited to these few months. The biodegradation of the preparation occurs simultaneously with the incorporation of new collagen fibers. Calcium Hydroxyapatite is a filler that lasts up to two years, which means that it lasts much longer than another popular filler – hyaluronic acid.
Calcium Hydroxyapatite is available as Radiesse and Crystalys. In each of them, calcium hydroxyapatite microparticles are suspended in a carrier – a special gel. The preparations differ in concentration – Radiesse contains 33% of calcium hydroxyapatite, and Crystalys – almost twice as much, as much as 55.7%. Both preparations are of high quality and have all the certificates that are required for medical devices. These preparations have been clinically tested for safety.
Crystalys and Radiesse – indications for the procedure
The face of a young person takes the shape of the letter V, while the proportions of the face change over the years. The skin loses its firmness, the contours of the face become less and less clear – and the face takes the shape of an inverted letter V. The cheeks fall, the line of the chin and jaw are disturbed, the so-called hamsters appear and the neck loses its firmness. The use of calcium hydroxyapatite allows you to reverse these undesirable signs of the time passing as the formulation restores volume to specific areas of the face.
The indications for the Crystalys / Radiesse treatment are:
- drooping eyebrows
- drooping mouth corners
- marionette lines extending from the corner of the mouth to the base of the chin
- nasolabial furrows
- blurry facial contours
- flat chin
- sunken temples
- sunken cheeks
- aging hands.
The course of the Crystalys / Radiesse treatment
Before performing the injection of calcium hydroxyapatite, it is necessary to undergo a medical consultation. If no contraindications are found, then the procedure can begin. You should remember a few important tips – a week before the planned surgery, it is good to give up the use of drugs containing acetylsalicylic acid. In addition, people with a tendency to blood vessels breakage and bruises can supplement vitamin C and vitamin K. In the first stage of the treatment, the skin is anesthetized with a cream, and then the preparation is applied to selected areas of the face. Thin needles or cannulas are used, so the puncture marks are almost invisible. The procedure takes about half an hour.
Post-treatment recommendations
Immediately after the procedure, a slight swelling may appear at the injection sites, which disappears spontaneously within a few hours. Therefore, there are no special post-treatment recommendations – the patient can return to daily activities. It is only worth remembering that for a few days after the treatment, you should avoid physical exertion, use the sauna and limit exposure to the sun, and alcohol consumption is not recommended during the first day after the treatment.
Contraindications to the procedure
The Crystalys / Radiesse treatment is a very safe treatment, but not everyone can undergo calcium hydroxyapatite injections. The most important contraindications for the procedure are:
- pregnancy and breastfeeding
- tendency to develop keloids
- autoimmune diseases
- tumors
- skin inflammation
- herpes
- decompensated diabetes.
The effects of Crystalys / Radiesse treatment
Performing the injection of calcium hydroxyapatite leads to a comprehensive rejuvenation of the face. Depending on the area of the face covered by the treatment, the effect of filling deep furrows and wrinkles, restoring the correct face oval and filling in tissue defects can be obtained. The preparation works in two stages – the effect of filling the furrows and tissue defects is immediately visible and results from the introduction of microspheres suspended in a gel carrier into specific parts of the face. The second stage of the preparation’s operation results from stimulating the synthesis of collagen fibers and comprehensive skin firming and thickening. This effect of the treatment appears gradually and lasts for several months. It is worth emphasizing that the effect is not only long-term, but also extremely natural. With the help of a safe and minimally invasive procedure, it is possible to achieve a spectacular rejuvenation effect that could once only have been the work of a plastic surgeon.
